I felt like I was in the movie GroundHog Day (woo! Bill Murray!) after the fourth call. I realize step aerobics went out in the early 90s, but come on!
It holds a special place in my heart.
This is where we all do a collective “awww!”
My father, being a [typical] frugal South Asian man back in the 90s, was not about to spend upwards of forty bucks on a pair of aerobic stairs. So he built two wooden ones (see above photo), and we did step aerobics together. I figure that since the cold weather is here to stay coupled with my aversion to shelling out 300 dollars for a gym membership, I should resurrect our old step aerobics routine.
By now, those wooden aerobic stairs my father built were gathering dust in my parents’ basement. One is still being used as a make-shift entertainment center, but the parents were more than willing to hand the other one over.
Since retail outlets weren’t going to help me unless I wanted to learn (or watch) Carmen Elektra stripping, I had no choice but to order some DVDs on Amazon.
My new trainer’s name is Gilad, in case you were wondering.

300 bucks for a gym membership?! You’d better be getting a massage, a facial, hot towels, a bell boy who dries you after your workout, and a deli sandwich (with a drink) every time you visit. I signed up for a gym just today and it’s gonna cost me about 65 a month.

300 bucks a year. roughly 35 bucks a month. Something I could do, but I’m also not one for exercising in public. Though I may have to do it cause. hello? Swimming pool :) first I have to get in the habit of working out though, you know?

Okay, I feel stupid, I thought that was per month. Now I’m the one paying too much, except I’m not because that’s the lowest price I could find. Plus my gym is in a ghetto strip mall. And has no pool.

Sweatin to the Oldies is fun. You can’t go wrong with Richard Simmons. He’s funny, and inspirational. I have him on VHS. Oh, and if you really want a laugh, try some Jane Fonda videos from the early 80’s—there’s one where a street guy walks in, and joins in on the aerobics, and they just leave him in the final cut.

The place to get exercise videos is Collage – http://www.collagevideo.com/ – their sales reps actually do all the videos they sell, and only recommend the good stuff. As such, Carmen Electra doesn’t make the list.
Lots and lots of step aerobics stuff to choose from. If you’re looking for something really hard core, get Cathe.
