Feeling Like James Bond in Tokyo.

“You get a special meal, right? A Muslim meal?”
“Yup, that’s me!”
Mmm. Muslims it’s what’s for dinner. Yummay in mah tummay!*
It is Monday morning and I’m sitting on a Continental 777. The plane itself isn’t moving— there is a thunderstorm over Newark at the moment, so the engines are off, and we’re watching the lightning surrounding us. I have three seats to myself, so I’m pretty darn happy. Much different than that other flight, No?
This flight will take me to Tokyo, where I’ll enjoy the airport for a few hours until another flight to Singapore. I arrive pretty late in Singapore, but the bride’s friend (and now my friend, woo!) has hooked me up with an apartment for the night. Check out her detailed instructions (which included photographs, by the way):
Only way to get home from airport is by cab. Just tell the driver to go to Block xxx. If he asks, tell him he can take the xxx then xxx (highways). The cab ride should cost ~S$30 and take ~30mins. Take elevator to 11th floor and walk down 1 floor to 10. Left from the stairs and straight to the end (other unit entrances on your left, railing and view of other apts in the midnight light on your right). The numbers on the door have all fallen off so you can’t really check that you’re at the right place. Should be two potted plants on the floor on the right. There’ll be nobody at home when you arrive. Your ticket and some maps (e.g. how to get to MRT station) will be taped to the TV. If your guidebooks don’t have MRT maps, the airport has these free booklets with city center layout and MRT maps. Do grab one. Please feel free to make yourself at home. There’s coffee, tea, milk, bread, eggs, cereal, etc, etc. Please sleep on the bed. The sheets are fresh. Needless to say, do lock the doors when you leave.
I will also leave a phone with a Malaysia sim card in it (Hotlink, xxx xxx xxxx), so you can call A. when you’ve crossed the border into Malaysia.
Can she get any more hospitable? Now you know why I feel like James Bond. I arrive to an empty apartment where a bus ticket, phone, maps, and other notes will be waiting for me. The next morning I enjoy a luxurious 5 hour bus ride on one of these babies to Kuala Lumpur, where I will meet the bride and groom. From there, we will take another bus ride to Penang.
Thank you all so much.
