How To Eat A Paani Puri

I’m a poor excuse for a South Asian. I don’t speak urdu, most people think I’m Arab, and most bollywood films bore me. Heck, I didn’t even know what a Paani Puri was until a few days ago. Now I know that you put the Paani in the Puri. I’ve decided to document how one should eat a Paani Puri with the help of my cousin:

1. Take the Puri crisp (you can buy them pre-made in South Asian grocery stores), and using your thumb, pop a small hole near the center of it.

2. Spoon the chick peas/potatos/bean sprouts* into the puri crisp.

3. Spoon in some Paani, or the spiced water. (Some recipes call for dipping!)

4. Eat. Whole.

5. Savor.

Like in Pakistan, it is called Gol Guppa in Dilli also and Dilliwalas can be quite posessive over the name. It is called Pani Puri in Bombay. Not sure what it is called in other North Indian towns.
