I Called My Nursing School Interviewer "Dude."

When things fall into place, they really fall into place. Just a few short weeks ago, I was laid off from a not-so-challenging day job that allowed me to travel and pursue other passions.
Despite the relatively little effort that the job took, eight hours of staring at a computer screen during the day made me a zombie at night. A very unproductive zombie.
Before I was laid off, I applied to one nursing school, and yesterday I was called in to interview at 2pm. With only a couple minutes before my scheduled meeting time, I parked three blocks away in an overpriced lot, and walked briskly (Read: Ran like Forrest) to the Admissions office, where I was to meet Dan for the interview.
Before Dan showed me into his office, I had a few moments to catch my breath. I didn’t need those few moments though, because as soon as we sat down, the first thing he said was, “I love your web site.”
“Dude!”
Did I just call my interviewer, “Dude?”
/*Smacks Forehead*/
What I thought might be a stuffy interview turned into more of a conversation, which I truly appreciated. After explaining why I’d like to be a nurse, Dan showed me all of my past coursework that would transfer over to the nursing program— many more than I had expected.
Between the talk of hijabman, and his willingness to share all of the classes that I didn’t have to take, I asked him a fairly straightforward question: What are my chances of getting in?
The answer came quick.
“Well, if I get done all of my paperwork, I’ll be putting in your acceptance today.”
In other words, I’m in!
In two short years, your favorite HijabMan will have been an icecream scooper, substitute teacher, summer camp counselor, icecream cake maker/decorator, retail sales associate, entrepreneur, wedding photographer, technical support guy, travel coordinator, production assistant, and French pastry salesman.
Oh, and a Registered Nurse! ;)

Congratulations! I can totally see you making your patients laugh their @**#* off seeing you in your scrubs (designed offcourse with clever sayings that make people do a double take). And if the words on the scrubs don’t make them crack up – your trademark HM Baloon Hat will surely put a smile even on the grumpiest patient! Best of luck & much love my friend.

duuuuude! (this post made me realize that I say dude way too much which is totally uncalled for since I live in Egypt!). Mabrook :) So is this your official career choice or are you just trying nursing on for size?

Thanks guys.
Balloons are not sterile— but just boil em first, silly.
As far as official career choice—- i’m the kind of person that is a bit impulsive— i like jumping in to things, because its the only way i’ll get around to doing it. I can see myself as a nurse. But I can also see myself as a photographer, an entrepeneur, a cafe owner, a chaplain….

You’ve nursed people’s heart, mind and soul all this while. Now, you’re going to nurse the physical body. I think that’s a complete package. You now remind me of Patch Adams.
