My Parents Want To Set Me Up

Just some notes: Muslim A Day is back for good this time. I’m sorry for my flakiness. Check out the latest Muslim A Day, a spoken word artist from IMAN’s Community Cafe in Chicago.
Lately, I’ve been flakey. All will be clear shortly, but the short version is that I’m going through a lifestyle change at the moment, and learning how to 1. Be Alone With God. 2. Juggle All Of My Responsibilities Effectively 3. And take on [possibly] another degree. God willing, I’ll begin classes in late September. This is a very big deal for me, because A. I am incredibly afraid of debt, and B. hoping that this time around, I’ll be more disciplined and serious about my education, and C. That will mean I’ll be working full-time, taking accelerated courses, working on HijabMan stuff, and the whole load of projects I have in my head. Volunteers are welcome.
Did I hear projects?
Yes, you heard correctly. An Organic Halal site is coming soon. So is HijabMan & Friends, a comic strip. God willing. Stay tuned.
Speaking of going back to school, I decided to call my parents earlier today and to get their input on my decision to delay classes until September. They seemed to think that was a good idea. It’ll be interesting to see if I can do everything without falling behind. I may break down and buy a roomba, or maybe I’ll hire a cleaning lady. Coming home to a clean house is key for maximum productivity, as far as I’m concerned.
Towards the end of the conversation, as I was about to say goodbye, my father had one more thing to add.
“Beta, I’d also like you to come over so we can discuss your marriage.”
WHAAA?!
“My marriage? Uhh, to who dad?” I laughed.
“Well you know, if you want us to start looking…”
While this may seem like a normal occurence to many of you desi folk out there, lemme ‘splain something. My parents can be traditional at times, but this is definitely not one of those times. Now that they are retired, they are even more laid back than they already were.
This is especially true when it comes to my or my siblings personal relationships. My siblings found each of their spouse’s without parental involvement.
Wait a minute, do they think I need help? Hahaha. Oh. boy.
I can assure you that my parents, as much as I love them, don’t have a huge community. Perhaps they stumbled upon a large pool of eligible women, but I doubt it. I don’t believe that they have the resources that a huge social circle brings. Besides, all of their other “suggestions” consisted of people that I would definitely not vibe with.
But, it won’t hurt to try, right? You know, just so I can entertain all of you, right?
RIGHT?!?!
Hello?
Update: Zosha, my sister, (who has just posted about Immigration Law in the US @ the american family blog )says that either Dad had a “dream” or they have someone in mind. Uh oh.

Welcome! This site serves two main purposes: to entertain and educate the Believing and curious community, and to generate a bit of cash—God willing. But there’s a lot more about HijabMan.

I support your parents’ idea.

Ah, now I understand that comment from one of your last mails. :)
Methinks circulating in a college environment will expand your marriage prospects to no end.
Besides, you’re a celebrity! Just imagine the irresistable effect of a great one-liner like: “Hi, I’m Hijabman. Wanna see my lingerie?”
It could happen.

Fathima- Who else would I do it for, me loves?
Will- Actually the comment in the last e-mail referred to ACTUAL incidents :-P
And, I’ve already tried the lingerie line. Doesn’t work. :-) haha, im emailing you back now.

all i gotta say is, just don’t do that running from state to state thing to check out girls as if they’re a piece of meat. actually, you wouldn’t do that, because you’re normal.
I love you! =)
Good luck to finding a wifey. And good luck with your endeavors… more power to ya…
