Sub-Prime Mortgage Mess. WHAT IS IT? Eid Mubarak to Ira Glass!

As many of you know, the house is currently voting (Update: REJECTED) on a Seven Hundred Billion dollar bail-out plan for the big wigs, the Dow is down about 700 points, and some people (Ms. Palin?) still don’t understand what this whole mess is about.

I thought I’d point you in the direction of one of the most popular and well-done pieces by This American Life. It explains this whole mess pretty well. It is worth it, I promise.

Listen to the hour long audio program here. (Click on “Full Episode”)

Next weekend, the same guys who put this together will be presenting a follow up piece next week. It promises to be very very good. Don’t worry, I’ll remind you about it.

In unrelated news, the month of Ramadan, in which Muslims abstain from food and drink from sunrise to sunset will be ending this week. A happy and peaceful Eid feast to those who are celebrating on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday.

My immediate family has its own council of Islamic Law.

It’s decision?

“Since our daughter and son-in-law are in town, the Eid-ul-Fitr celebration will occur on Tuesday. And because we are cool, we will also celebrate on Wednesday.”
